School Golf Academy

The Society is committed to a close liaison with the school, not just because the School provides quality golfers who can represent us in the Halford Hewitt and other major competitions, but because we are committed, as the school is, to providing opportunities for all OW golfers to enjoy the game and to indulge what is in many cases a passion for the sport. The Society awards The Walker Cup each year to a schoolboy who has distinguished himself in school golf.

Uniquely, every pupil who joins Whitgift in the First Form receives eight golf lessons delivered by the school’s PGA Professional, Tim Trodd. These lessons are supplemented by practice sessions every lunchtime at the School’s golf academy. The lunchtime sessions are open to anyone in the School and students can also access further lessons from Tim Trodd on an individual and group basis.

Students represent the school at U13, U15 and U18 age groups; the School has won numerous National titles but offers match opportunities to students once they have obtained a handicap, enabling a wide base of participation.

The School has good links with a number of local courses and is extremely fortunate to have strong partnerships with The Addington Golf Club and Croham Hurst Golf Club, which provide good tests for golfers at all levels.
